Today we’d like to tell you a little bit more about rubberwood, this underrated yet high-quality wood.
From table tops to ottomans to bar stools, we have a wide selection of rubberwood furniture, and we want to tell you what’s so special about it!
#1 Where it all begins
Rubber trees grow in Asia, Africa and South America. They can grow over 40 meters high and live up to 100 years.
#2 Rubber rules the world
Rubberwoods’ most famous feature is the milky white sap, known as latex. Rubberwood produces all the latex used in the world for all rubber based products. Tyres, gumboots, rubber bands, rubber hoses… the list goes on and on.
#3 Eco-friendly to the max
Rubberwood is used only after it completes its latex producing cycle and dies. In other words, this wood is extremely eco-friendly in the sense that we use what was supposed to go to waste
#4 Amazingly durable
Rubberwood belongs to the maple family, a true hardwood. In fact, rubberwood is one of the most durable woods used to manufacture furniture. It is strong, flexible and resistant to fungus, bacteria and mould.
#5 Versatile
You can beautifully combine Rubberwood with other styles, such as industrial furniture. Our Hairpin range is the perfect example of a dining table, stool and bar stools made from rubberwood. We sell Rubberwood table tops seperate and in a range of colours
#6 How to care for rubberwood furniture
Simply use a solution of water and soap then dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth. We recommend using a furniture to wax to maintain your rubberwood tops, this will keep them looking their best for longer and help your tops last for years on end.
#7 Keep it inside
Rubberwood is not suitable for outdoor use as rain can leach the protective chemicals form the wood, hence exposing it to fungus attacks. It can also cause your top to warp or bow over time if left to sit, so make sure you keep your new tops inside!Posted in Cafe Furniture ByDaniel Clarke
